Matrículas em cursos de educação a distância quase dobram em um ano
As matrículas em cursos superiores de educação a distância cresceram 96,9% de 2007 a 2008. Ao todo, são 727.961 universitários que optaram pelo ensino superior não presencial.
No ano passado, 115 instituições ofereceram cursos dessa modalidade – 18 a mais do que em 2007. As informações são do Censo da Educação Superior de 2008, divulgado nesta sexta (27) pelo Ministério da Educação.
As matrículas da educação a distância já correspondem a 14% da oferta de ensino superior no país. O número também registrou aumento (58,6%), bem como as vagas ofertadas nessa modalidade (10,3%).
Para o presidente do Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais (Inep), Reynaldo Fernandes, a expansão não está ocorrendo em detrimento da qualidade. “Nós controlamos isso nas avaliações e não há diferença nos resultados dos alunos de cursos a distância e presenciais no Enade [Exame Nacional de Desempenho dos Estudantes].”
A educação a distância registrou um aumento expressivo nos últimos anos. De 2003 para 2005, o número de vagas oferecidas cresceu 70 vezes. A cada ano, a quantidade de alunos que ingressam em cursos desse tipo cresce sempre mais do que 40%, tendo aumento 407% de 2004 para 2005.
Reynaldo destaca que o perfil do estudante do ensino a distância é diferente do presencial: geralmente são pessoas mais velhas que estavam há muitos anos afastadas das salas de aula. Ele acredita que as novas tecnologias contribuíram para a expansão da modalidade nos últimos anos.
Assim como na educação presencial, o setor privado responde pela maior parte dos alunos. Em 2008, mais de 60% dos alunos estudam em cursos particulares – 448.973 entre os 727.961 totais.
