Secretarias de Educação estaduais e municipais, organizações não governamentais e universidades que desenvolveram experiências de alfabetização de jovens e adultos podem se inscrever até 28 de maio para concorrer à Medalha Paulo Freire. A ficha de inscrição e o edital do concurso estão disponíveis no site do MEC .

O título foi criado pelo Ministério da Educação para reconhecer e estimular projetos bem sucedidos de educação de jovens e adultos. O MEC ressalta que a medalha “tem caráter cultural e educacional e não está vinculada a prêmio de qualquer natureza”. Podem concorrer experiências inciadas até novembro de 2009.

Serão escolhidos até dois projetos por estado, que participarão de uma seleção nacional para definir dez finalistas. Em agosto, esses projetos serão avaliados por técnicos e a divulgação dos resultados está prevista para 16 de setembro. Desde a primeira edição, em 2005, já foram distribuídas 12 medalhas para entidades de dez estados.
