A partir desta quarta (26), escolas de educação infantil, ensino fundamental e médio – públicas e privadas – devem acessar o sistema que irá coletar os dados para o Censo Escolar da Educação Básica de 2010. Desde 2007 o processo é feito exclusivamente via internet por meio do Sistema Educacenso.

A escola terá que fornecer informações sobre alunos, professores, turmas e infraestrutura do estabelecimento de ensino até 31 de agosto. Antes a escola informava apenas o número total de alunos o que tornava as informações imprecisas. A partir de 2007, é preciso indicar o nome completo, data de nascimento, idade, sexo, cor e raça, endereço, nome dos pais e outros detalhes sobre cada estudante.

Os dados do censo são a base para a definição de critérios para repasse de recursos a escolas, estados e municípios. De acordo com o Ministério da Educação, as informações permitem também traçar um quadro detalhado da educação básica nacional o que permite avaliar os resultados das políticas públicas implementadas.
