O Ministério da Educação (MEC) irá ajudar na reconstrução das escolas e creches que foram destruídas pelas chuvas em Pernambuco e Alagoas. O ministro da Educação, Fernando Haddad, visitou nesta quinta (24), ao lado do presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, algumas das cidades afetadas. Na próxima semana, uma missão formada por técnicos em educação infantil e ensino fundamental vai aos estados avaliar a situação.

Ontem, os secretários de Educação dos dois estados se reuniram com o secretário executivo do MEC, Paulo Henrique Paim, para discutir as ações. Inicialmente, estão previstos R$ 51 milhões apenas para a reconstrução das unidades estaduais, mas esse valor deve aumentar quando houver um diagnóstico da situação das escolas municipais.

Uma equipe do MEC está reunida estudando qual é a forma mais adequada – do ponto de vista jurídico e administrativo - para liberação desse dinheiro. As chuvas e enchentes já afetaram 59 municípios em Pernambuco, com 16 mortos, e 28 em Alagoas, com 29 mortos e mais de 600 desaparecidos.
