A uma semana do final do prazo para adesão de estados e municípios ao Programa Brasil Alfabetizado, do governo federal, o Ministério da Educação faz a previsão de matricular, neste ano, 2,2 milhões de jovens e adultos em classes de alfabetização. O prazo para adesão de estados e municípios termina no próximo domingo (4) e a meta do ministério é fechar parceria com 1.450 secretarias de Educação.

Até agora, foram registradas 1.392 adesões – 23 estados, o Distrito Federal e 1.368 municípios. Ainda não aderiram ao programa os estados de São Paulo, do Espírito Santo e Rio Grande do Sul. O ministério repassa recursos aos estados e municípios participantes para capacitações de professores, compra de material pedagógico, além de ser responsável pelo pagamento da bolsa dos alfabetizadores.

Segundo dados da Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios (Pnad) de 2008, feita pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), o país tem 14 milhões de analfabetos entre a população com 15 anos de idade ou mais, o que representa 10% dos brasileiros nessa faixa etária.
