PGR questiona constitucionalidade do ensino religioso nas escolas públicas
A Procuradoria-Geral da República (PGR) entrou com uma ação no Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) questionando o ensino religioso nas escolas públicas. A PGR, segundo nota, “pede a interpretação de normas para deixar claro que o ensino religioso em escolas públicas só pode ser de natureza não confessional, com proibição de admissão de professores na qualidade de representantes das confissões religiosas”.
De acordo com a procuradora-geral em exercício, Deborah Duprat, só é possível compatibilizar o caráter laico do Estado brasileiro com o ensino religioso se o conteúdo programático da disciplina consistir na exposição “das doutrinas, das práticas, das histórias e da dimensão social das diferentes religiões”, sem tomada de partido por parte dos professores.
Na ação, Duprat questiona também o acordo assinado entre o Brasil e o Vaticano sobre o ensino religioso nas escolas. O texto diz que “o ensino religioso, católico e de outras confissões religiosas, de matrícula facultativa, constitui disciplina dos horários normais das escolas públicas de ensino fundamental”.
Segundo a procuradora, a expressão “parece apontar, pelo menos numa primeira leitura, no sentido da adoção do ensino da religião católica e de outros credos”, que, segundo ela, afronta o princípio da laicidade. Ela sugere que seja suprimido da redação a expressão “católico e de outras confissões religiosas”.
