A diretoria do Sindicato dos Professores considera que o adiamento do reinício das aulas em razão do surto da gripe H1N1 é uma medida cujos efeitos podem ser opostos aos da prevenção da saúde dos estudantes. Em primeiro lugar, porque não há, por parte das autoridades, qualquer segurança de que a previsão do retorno às atividades letivas será possível tanto quanto não se sabe sobre quando se dará o recuo da disseminação da gripe. Em segundo lugar, porque as escolas não são os únicos ambientes de convívio coletivo dos jovens: seria preciso, para que a medida fosse consequente, que todos os demais espaços frequentados pelos estudantes também fossem igualmente fechados Ao público: cinemas, teatros, clubes, danceterias, shoppings etc.

A manifestação do SINPRO-SP vem a propósito dos insistentes rumores surgidos depois que a Secretaria da Educação de São Paulo suspendeu as aulas na rede pública, rumores que acabam se espalhando por todo o sistema de ensino, inclusive o privado. Para a diretoria do Sindicato, o funcionamento normal das escolas pode servir como recurso de prevenção sanitária, já que é na escola que os estudantes podem estar mais protegidos em razão das orientações que recebem. Além disso, o adiamento indefinido do reinício do semestre pode gerar uma desorganização de natureza didático-pedagógica que em nada contribuiria para a tranquilidade social.
