CUT lamenta morte de Zilda Arns e demais vítimas do terremoto que atingiu o Haiti

Em nome dos 22 milhões de trabalhadores e trabalhadoras que representa, a CUT - Central Única dos Trabalhadores lamenta profundamente a morte de Zilda Arns, vítima do terremoto ocorrido nesta terça-feira, dia 12 de janeiro, no Haiti.

A notícia causa tristeza e pesar, pois com ela veio a certeza de que não apenas o Brasil, mas o mundo perdeu uma das maiores lutadoras das causas humanitárias, mulher de coragem e bondade extraordinárias.

Zilda Neumann tinha 75 anos e integrava a força de paz das Nações Unidas no País, liderada há cinco anos pelo governo brasileiro. Médica, pediatra e sanitarista foi fundadora e coordenadora da Pastoral da Criança e da Pastoral da Pessoa Idosa, órgão de Ação Social da CNBB (Conferência Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil).
 
Por meio da Pastoral da Criança foi pioneira na defesa dos direitos de igualdade e uma das primeiras a entender que as crianças e adolescentes são cidadãos detentores de direitos. Entre as ações que desenvolveu de valorização da vida, destaca-se o combate à desnutrição infantil como uma forma de frear a mortalidade entre as crianças.  
 
Indicada por três vezes ao Nobel da Paz, desde 2003, Zilda era membro do CDES (Conselho de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social), órgão consultivo da Presidência da República, composto majoritariamente pela sociedade civil, também integrado por membros da Executiva  Nacional da CUT, conselheiros que com ela tiveram contato em várias reuniões.

A CUT envia suas mais sinceras condolências à família e amigos de Zilda e a todos os companheiros e companheiras haitianos frente a essa situação tão difícil e extremamente triste que enluta toda a comunidade internacional.
