Aos 87 anos, morre o escritor português José Saramago
O escritor portugês José Saramago, de 87 anos, morreu na sexta (18) em consequência de falência múltipla dos órgãos, depois de um longo período com a saúde fragilizada. Prêmio Nobel de Literatura em 1998, Saramago morreu na Ilha de Lanzarote, uma das Ilhas Canárias, onde vivia desde os anos 90.
A fundação que leva o nome do escritor informou que ele estava acompanhado pela família no momento da morte. A informação foi confirmada pela imprensa portuguesa.
“O escritor morreu acompanhado por sua família, despedindo-se de forma serena e tranquila”, informou a Fundação José Saramago em um breve comunicado de cinco linhas. Segundo a nota, a morte ocorreu às 12h30 – cerca das 8h de Brasília. A notícia está estampada na capa do site da fundação na internet.
De acordo com a imprensa portuguesa, Saramago teve uma noite tranquila, tomou o café da manhã normalmente hoje, mas em seguida começou a passar mal e morreu. A mulher dele, Pilar Del Río, o acompanhava.
No blog do escritor foi postado hoje um trecho de uma entrevista concedida por Saramago em 11 de outubro de 2008 à revista portuguesa Expresso.
“Acho que na sociedade atual nos falta filosofia. Filosofia como espaço, lugar, método de reflexão, que pode não ter um objetivo determinado, como a ciência, que avança para satisfazer objetivos. Falta-nos reflexão, pensar, precisamos do trabalho de pensar, e parece-me que, sem ideias, não vamos a parte nenhuma”.
