Cai o número de mães menores de 20 anos no país, mostra IBGE

Pesquisa do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) sobre os registros nascimentos no país mostra que continua em queda o número de mães com menos de 20 anos de idade. Entre 1998 e 2008, o indicador passou de 21,3% para 19,4%.

A pesquisa divulgada hoje (25) destaca que a maternidade entre 15 e 19 anos eleva os riscos de mortalidade para a mulher e o filho, além de agravar a vulnerabilidade das mães adolescentes, que muitas vezes precisam deixar a escola no período da educação básica.

“A questão crucial é a renda, o nível educacional, o serviço de saúde aos quais têm acesso e não simplesmente o fato de terem filhos, pois os registros mostram redução do volume de nascimentos, sem, no entanto, desconsiderar os riscos à mulher e à criança”, diz o estudo.

Entre as unidades da Federação, em 2008, os maiores percentuais de mães até os 20 anos de idade foram registrado no Maranhão (26,2%), no Pará (26%) e no Tocantins (25,2%). Distrito Federal (14%), São Paulo (15,6%) e Rio Grande do Sul (17%) apresentam os melhores indicadores. Nesses estados, predominam mães entre 25 e 29 anos.

De acordo com informações dos registros de nascimentos, o IBGE também constatou que 98,5% dos nascimentos no ano passado ocorreram em unidades de saúde. O Acre e o Amazonas registraram o maior percentual de indivíduos nascidos em casa, 10,3% e 10%, respectivamente.
